There’s a great deal of anxiety when you have the responsibility of selling your parents’ estate. It’s all down to a matter of trust. The world of antique buying and selling is not known for its ethics. I had such a responsibility and am truly grateful for the part Alanna Butera played in this experience. The property was sold fairly and without stress. I attribute that to her protective calm nature, her studied knowledge and her consummate professionalism.

Executor of New York City Estate

In my 50+ year career in the arts, there have been very few individuals I would recommend with such keen enthusiasm and delight as I now recommend Ginny Butera, PhD. I have known Dr. Butera for over two decades and have worked with her in multiple capacities: as a curator, lecturer, program creator and educator. Dr. Butera thinks “outside the box,” pursuing creative, interdisciplinary connections, as in her pairings of art exhibits with musical performances (at least one of which garnered NEA funding). In fact, her vision and efforts elevate her exhibitions to ones of significant distinction – worthy of federal grants and attention in major media outlets. Dr. Butera is a favorite among curators, sought after not only for her extensive knowledge of artists and styles but also for her ability to synthesize and realize her client’s thoughts about each exhibit. The results have been uniformly excellent – with exhibits that have been visually beautiful, thought-provoking and highly stimulating.

Former Director of Galleries at Morris Arts

Curating, at its best, is finding hidden relationships between two or more things. That art of recognizing kindred traits in two disparate works, placing them next to or near each other, so that their new relationship can bloom, only comes from someone with a great eye and a mountain of experience. A great curator, like a mysterious matchmaker, engineers enduring relationships. Dr. Ginny Butera is a great curator and highly recognized for her curatorial work and keen eye. I have been extremely fortunate to be part of several of her juried exhibitions at different corporate and non-profit spaces in New Jersey and had her curate a solo exhibition of my work at a non-profit space.

New Jersey Artist

I was executor of my mother-in-law's estate and had to sell an apartment full of fine art, fine furniture, jade, china, silver and a healthy array of clothes. I was fortunate enough to be introduced to Butera Art Advisory and its president Alanna Butera. They provided straightforward information about valuation and the sale process for the fine art and other property in the apartment. I had a dedicated project manager who was my contact on a day-to-day basis, and the entire team was always available for advice and counsel. Their goal was the same as ours - sell at the highest prices for the top pieces and liquidate the remaining property at a fair price. Even when we switched gears and decided to donate some of the lower valued contents, they identified organizations that might be interested in the donations. We were thrilled to have had Butera Art Advisory as our partners in this endeavor.

Private New York City Client

Over the course of several years, Butera Art Advisory has managed and appraised my art collection including contemporary art, oriental rugs, Tiffany glass and jewelry. The team is methodical and thorough in their approach. I am amazed by their breadth of knowledge in so many areas which makes their skills so ideal when looking at the “big picture” as well as high-end single objects. The team has been a joy to work with. They are reliable, responsible and completely committed. I unhesitatingly recommend Butera Art Advisory, specifically its president, to my friends and clients as a most valuable resource when appraisals and sales advisory services are required.

Private Client and Financial Advisor

My partner and I have had the pleasure of working with the firm's president, Alanna Butera, in her capacity as an art appraiser for several years. On behalf of our clients, she has appraised many works of contemporary art, ranging in value from less than $1 million to well over $5 million. She has also provided us and our clients with valuable insights relating to the art market.
