Virtual History Tour: Rise of New York Art Galleries in the 20th Century

Butera Art Advisory invites you to join us on Tuesday, April 20th, at 6:00 PM for a virtual lecture on the history of art and culture in New York City. For the second lecture in this series, renowned New York historian, Kevin Draper, will take us on a tour to discuss the rise of the New York City art gallery scene in the 20th century.

On February 17, 1913, an art exhibition opened in New York City that shocked the country, changed our perception of beauty and had a profound effect on artists and collectors.

The International Exhibition of Modern Art, which came to be known, simply, as the Armory Show, marked the dawn of Modernism in America. It was the first time the phrase “avant-garde” was used to describe painting and sculpture.

New York City would become the center of the world’s art scene. Its museums and galleries would continue to grow and prosper, much like the city itself. We will explore how the art scene continued to develop from the 1920s through the 1960s.

Butera Art Advisory is excited to bring you this informative and dynamic presentation. Through his tours and lectures, Kevin presents excitement and passion around the development of New York City.
