Did you know that desktop or remote appraisals are available for most fine and decorative art and other collectibles?
Whether for estate, insurance, donation or collateral loan purposes, we have included below the key requirements and guidelines for these types of desktop appraisals.
As we practice the recommended social distancing, our offices are closed and client visits have been postponed. Our top priority is the safety and health of our clients and specialists. We are working remotely and continue to respond to inquiries about appraisals and sales advisory.
As clients take advantage of this time at home, they may want to reassess their collections and speak with family members about their interests in the works. Clients may also want to explore the current value of items and potential sales options. DESKTOP APPRAISALS | April 2020
BAAM is offering desktop appraisals for fine and decorative art, jewelry, motorcars, coins and other collectibles. Our aim is to help clients meet any tax deadlines, aid in financial planning and update insurance schedules.
BAAM’s Requirements for a Desktop Appraisal
In order for BAAM appraisers and specialists to conduct a desktop appraisal, please provide the following catalogue information via email, electronic transfer or mail.
- Photographs (overall and details of any signatures, markings or gallery/exhibition labels)
- Name of artist, maker or designer
- Medium (i.e. for fine art: oil on canvas, watercolor on paper, lithograph, etc.)
- Measurements (height by width for two-dimensional pieces; height by width by depth for three-dimensional pieces)
- Provenance (i.e. ownership and purchase history)
- Copies of any documentation related to the work, including receipts/invoices, condition reports, old appraisals and/or insurance schedules
For the required information to provide desktop appraisals for jewelry, watches, motorcars, motorcycles and other specialty items, please contact BAAM directly.
Following receipt of this information and after conducting our valuation research, BAAM will provide clients with a PDF appraisal document.
The Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) does not require site visits if the appraiser is able to perform a credible appraisal from information provided on the property being appraised.
