The International Exhibition of Modern Art, which came to be known, simply, as the Armory Show, marked the dawn of Modernism in America. It was the first time the phrase “avant-garde” was used to describe painting and sculpture.
New York City would become the center of the world’s art scene. Its museums and galleries would continue to grow and prosper, much like the city itself. We will explore how the art scene continued to develop from the 1920s through the 1960s.
